Seafood Boil - Less Intimidating than it sounds
The Easiest Seafood Boil (Straight from Frozen)
If you want something that feels a little special but is actually incredibly easy, this seafood boil is it. No fuss, no thawing—just great flavor and a process that’s hard to mess up.
It’s fun, a little messy (ok, a lot messy), and packed with flavor….and butter. I was inspired to learn how to make this when my son discovered his love for seafood boil and I discovered that ordering it in a restaurant for two in Orange County was well over $100. In an act of self-preservation, I found a great local seafood market, shout out to Tres Islas and for a fraction of the price can now make it at home.
Start with the Base
Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil. Don’t be shy with seasoning—this is where all your flavor starts.
I usually add:
A generous amount of salt
Whole peppercorns
Red pepper flakes
Let the water come to a boil and cook for about 5–10 minutes to build flavor before adding anything else.
Build Your Boil
If you’re adding multiple ingredients, timing is everything. Add them in stages so everything finishes perfectly cooked:
Potatoes: cook for 12–15 minutes
Sausage: add and cook for 5 minutes
Corn: cook for 5–7 minutes
Frozen crab legs: cook for about 8 minutes
Shrimp (if using): add last and cook for 3–5 minutes
Make sure the water returns to a boil after each addition.
The Sauce (Don’t Skip This)
While everything is cooking, make the sauce. This is what takes it from good to so good.
Fab Crab Sauce
½ to 1 cup butter (depending on how much you’re making)
8–10 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp Old Bay seasoning
1 tbsp Cajun seasoning (I use Tony Chachere’s)
1 tbsp lemon pepper
2 tsp paprika
½–1 tsp cayenne (adjust to your heat preference)
1–2 tsp brown sugar
Juice of ½ a lemon
Melt the butter, add everything in, and let it simmer together until it smells amazing.
Bring It All Together
Drain your seafood and transfer everything into a large bowl or even a big freezer bag (trust me on this—it works great in a pinch).
Pour the sauce over everything and toss until fully coated.
Serve + Enjoy
Dump it out onto a tray or serve straight from the bowl. No need to overthink it—this is meant to be casual, a little messy, and really delicious.
Perfect for a family dinner or when you want something that feels fun without a ton of effort.
